Black Magic Margaritas

  • Author: Imili Johnson
  • Total Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz silver tequila
  • 1 oz triple sec (orange liqueur)
  • 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ½ oz simple syrup (or to taste)
  • 1 drop black food coloring (gel or liquid)
  • Black salt (for rimming the glass)
  • Lime wedge (for rimming and garnish)
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: Activated charcoal capsule (for a natural black color alternative)

Instructions

Preparation:

Step 1:
Begin by preparing the glass. Run a lime wedge around the rim of the margarita glass and dip it into black salt to coat the rim evenly. Set the glass aside.

Step 2:
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes. Add the tequila, triple sec, freshly squeezed lime juice, and simple syrup.

Step 3:
Add a drop of black food coloring to the shaker. If you prefer a natural option, open an activated charcoal capsule and add the charcoal powder instead.

Step 4:
Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds to thoroughly mix the ingredients and chill the drink.

Step 5:
Carefully strain the mixture into the prepared margarita glass filled with ice. Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim for a festive touch.

Notes

  • The amount of black food coloring can be adjusted based on the shade of darkness you desire. Start with a drop and gradually add more if needed.
  • If using activated charcoal, make sure it’s food-grade and use only a small amount to avoid altering the taste too much.
  • For an alcohol-free mocktail, replace tequila and triple sec with sparkling water or lemon-lime soda.
