Ingredients
Ingredients
-
1 oz grenadine (red layer)
-
1 oz lemon vodka or citrus vodka (white layer)
-
1 oz blue curaçao (blue layer)
-
2 oz lemonade
-
Ice
-
Lemon slice or cherry (for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Fill the glass with ice
Use a tall, clear glass (like a Collins or highball) and fill it all the way with ice. Crushed ice works best for controlling the layering, but cubed ice also works.
Step 2: Add the grenadine
Pour 1 oz grenadine slowly into the bottom of the glass. Let it settle to create the bold red base.
Step 3: Mix vodka and lemonade
In a shaker or measuring cup, mix 1 oz lemon or citrus vodka with 2 oz lemonade. Stir gently.
Step 4: Layer the vodka mix
Using the back of a spoon, slowly pour the vodka-lemonade mixture over the ice so it floats above the grenadine. This forms the “white” middle layer.
Step 5: Add the blue curaçao
Again using the back of a spoon, carefully pour 1 oz of blue curaçao on top to complete the layered effect.
Step 6: Garnish and serve
Add a lemon slice or maraschino cherry for a colorful garnish and serve immediately with a straw.
Notes
-
The key to perfect layers is density—grenadine is heaviest, followed by lemonade-vodka, and blue curaçao is lightest
-
Pour each layer slowly over the back of a spoon resting against the inside of the glass
-
Use chilled ingredients so the ice doesn’t melt too quickly and blur the colors
-
Clear glasses show off the layered effect best
-
If making a batch, assemble each drink individually for the best look
