Ingredients
Ingredients:
- 2 oz dark rum
- 1 oz blackberry liqueur
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- ½ oz simple syrup
- 2–3 dashes of black food coloring (optional, for darker appearance)
- 1 splash of club soda
- Crushed ice
- Dry ice (for the smoky effect, use with caution)
- Black sugar or regular sugar (for rimming the glass)
- Lime wedge (for rimming the glass and garnish)
- Blackberries and/or gummy worms (for garnish)
Instructions
Preparation:
Step 1: Prepare the glass by rimming it with sugar. Run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass, then dip the rim into black sugar or regular sugar for a frosty effect.
Step 2: In a cocktail shaker, combine dark rum, blackberry liqueur, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, and black food coloring (if using). Shake well for about 20-30 seconds until well-mixed and chilled.
Step 3: Fill the rimmed glass with crushed ice, then strain the cocktail mixture over the ice.
Step 4: Add a splash of club soda on top for a slight fizz.
Step 5: Carefully place a small piece of dry ice into the glass for a smoky, bubbling effect. Make sure not to touch or ingest the dry ice directly.
Step 6: Garnish with a lime wedge, blackberries, or a few gummy worms for a spooky touch.
Variations:
- Berry Blast: Swap the blackberry liqueur with raspberry liqueur and add fresh raspberries for a tart twist.
- Witch’s Brew: Add a splash of blue curaçao for a more vibrant color and a hint of citrusy sweetness.
- Non-Alcoholic Version: Replace the rum and liqueur with a combination of blackberry juice, lime juice, and grape soda for a kid-friendly mocktail.
Notes
- Dry ice is used for dramatic effect but should never be consumed. Allow it to fully dissipate before taking a sip.
- Use food-safe gloves or tongs when handling dry ice to avoid skin burns.
- The cocktail can be prepared in advance, but add the dry ice and garnishes just before serving.
