Grinch Popcorn with White Chocolate Drizzle and Holiday Sprinkles

  • Author: Imili Johnson
  • Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups plain, popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels)
  • 12 ounces green candy melts
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (or vegetable shortening, for melting)
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1/4 cup holiday sprinkles (red and green)
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon salt (for a touch of contrast to the sweetness)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Popcorn Base

  • Pop the popcorn using your preferred method (air-popped, stovetop, or microwave). Make sure to remove any unpopped kernels to avoid unpleasant surprises when eating.
  • Spread the popcorn on a large, parchment-lined baking sheet in an even layer.

Step 2: Melt the Green Candy Melts

  • Place the green candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Add 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil or vegetable shortening to help with melting.
  • Microwave in 30-second increments, stirring after each interval, until fully melted and smooth. This should take about 1-2 minutes, depending on your microwave’s power.
  • Pour the melted green candy over the popcorn, using a spatula to gently toss and coat the popcorn evenly. Work quickly before the candy hardens.

Step 3: Drizzle with White Chocolate

  • In a separate bowl, melt the white chocolate chips with the remaining 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil. Again, use 30-second bursts in the microwave, stirring between each until smooth and fully melted.
  • Using a spoon or fork, drizzle the melted white chocolate over the green-coated popcorn. This step adds a delicious creamy texture and a festive look.

Step 4: Add the Toppings

  • Immediately sprinkle the mini marshmallows over the warm candy-coated popcorn, pressing gently so they stick to the candy.
  • Scatter holiday sprinkles generously over the top. The red and green sprinkles create a cheerful holiday effect.
  • If desired, sprinkle a small amount of salt to balance the sweetness.

Step 5: Allow to Set

  • Let the popcorn sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or until the candy coating has fully hardened. You can also speed up the process by placing the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes.
  • Once set, break the popcorn into clusters and serve in a large bowl or divide into individual serving bags for a festive treat.
