Rainbow Shot

Ingredients

Scale

To make the perfect Rainbow Shot, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • ½ ounce Grenadine – A rich, sweet syrup that creates the vibrant red base of the shot.
  • ½ ounce Orange Juice – Adds citrusy sweetness and forms the next layer above the grenadine.
  • ½ ounce Pineapple Juice – Complements the orange juice and contributes to the yellow layer.
  • ½ ounce Blue Curacao – A citrus-flavored liqueur that provides the beautiful blue color in the drink.
  • ½ ounce Vodka – A neutral spirit that adds a slight kick while allowing the other flavors to shine.
  • ½ ounce Cream (or heavy cream) – Provides a smooth and velvety top layer, completing the rainbow effect.

Instructions

Step 1: Gather Your Tools and Ingredients

Before you start, make sure you have a shot glass (or a small highball glass), a bar spoon, and a steady hand. Using cold ingredients helps maintain the layers better, so chill your juices and liquors beforehand.

Step 2: Pour the Grenadine

The first step in creating the layered effect is adding grenadine. Since it’s the heaviest ingredient, it naturally settles at the bottom. Pour it directly into the glass without tilting it to form the base of your shot.

Step 3: Add Orange Juice and Pineapple Juice

Next, take a bar spoon and place the tip just above the grenadine layer. Slowly pour the orange juice over the back of the spoon so that it gently sits on top of the grenadine. This technique prevents the layers from mixing too quickly. Repeat the same step with pineapple juice, creating a seamless transition from red to yellow.

Step 4: Layer the Vodka and Blue Curacao

Now it’s time to carefully add the vodka. Using the same spoon technique, slowly pour it over the pineapple juice layer. Vodka is lighter than the juices, so it will float on top. After that, carefully pour the Blue Curacao using the back of the spoon to form a beautiful blue-green layer.

Step 5: Finish with Cream

Finally, top the shot with cream by gently drizzling it over the back of the spoon. This step creates a smooth, white finishing layer, completing the rainbow effect. Serve immediately to preserve the distinct layers before they start blending.

Notes

The key to a perfect Rainbow Shot is mastering the layering technique. Pouring each ingredient slowly and carefully over the back of a spoon helps create distinct layers without mixing. Cold ingredients work best as they are less likely to blend together too quickly. Also, make sure to pour the heaviest ingredients first (grenadine) and work your way up to the lightest ones (cream).
