Vanilla Caramel White Russian

  • Author: Imili Johnson
  • Total Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ oz (45ml) vodka
  • 1 oz (30ml) coffee liqueur (Kahlúa or any preferred brand)
  • 1 oz (30ml) heavy cream or milk
  • ½ oz (15ml) vanilla syrup (or ½ tsp vanilla extract)
  • ½ oz (15ml) caramel syrup (plus extra for drizzling)
  • Ice cubes (as needed)
  • Whipped cream (optional, for garnish)
  • Caramel drizzle (for garnish)
  • Cinnamon or cocoa powder (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Glass

Take a short rocks glass or an Old Fashioned glass and drizzle caramel sauce along the inside of the glass. This will create a decorative effect and enhance the caramel flavor as you sip the drink.

Step 2: Add Ice

Fill the glass with ice cubes to chill the drink and maintain its smooth texture. Crushed ice can also be used for a slightly different texture.

Step 3: Pour the Vodka and Coffee Liqueur

Add 1 ½ oz (45ml) of vodka and 1 oz (30ml) of coffee liqueur into the glass over the ice. The coffee liqueur provides a rich, bold coffee flavor, while the vodka adds smoothness.

Step 4: Mix in the Vanilla and Caramel Syrup

Pour ½ oz (15ml) of vanilla syrup (or vanilla extract) and ½ oz (15ml) of caramel syrup into the glass. Stir gently to combine the flavors without disturbing the caramel drizzle on the glass.

Step 5: Add the Cream or Milk

Slowly pour 1 oz (30ml) of heavy cream or milk over the back of a spoon so that it gently floats on top of the mixture. This creates the classic White Russian effect with a layered look.

Step 6: Garnish and Serve

For extra indulgence, top the drink with whipped cream, a drizzle of caramel sauce, and a light dusting of cinnamon or cocoa powder. Serve with a straw or enjoy as is.

Notes

  • Chilling the Glass: For an extra cold and refreshing cocktail, chill the glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes before serving.
  • Sweetness Adjustment: If you prefer a less sweet drink, reduce the caramel syrup or use an unsweetened vanilla extract instead of vanilla syrup.
  • Serving Temperature: The ice helps maintain a cold, creamy texture, but if you prefer a warmer version, heat the milk before adding it and skip the ice.
