Poor Man’s Husband Casserole

  • Author: Imili Johnson
  • Total Time: 16 minute

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes, sliced thinly
  • 1 can (15 ounces) green beans, drained
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This will ensure that the casserole bakes evenly.

Step 2: Brown the Ground Beef

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.

Step 3: Sauté the Onions

Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. This enhances the flavor of the beef.

Step 4: Mix the Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the cooked beef and onions with the cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix until well combined.

Step 5: Assemble the Casserole

In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom. Spread the ground beef mixture over the potatoes. Add the drained green beans on top, then layer the remaining potato slices. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top.

Step 6: Bake the Casserole

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
