Swiss Mushroom Burger

  • Author: Imili Johnson
  • Total Time: 25 mins

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

For the Burger:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 burger buns
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened

For Serving:

  • Lettuce (optional)
  • Sliced tomatoes (optional)

Instructions

Preparation:

Step 1: Preheat a grill or stovetop pan over medium-high heat. While waiting for the pan to heat up, season the ground beef with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Form the seasoned ground beef into 4 equally sized patties.

Step 2: In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the sliced mushrooms and minced garlic. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms are golden brown and tender. Set aside.

Step 3: Grill the prepared patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until the desired level of doneness is achieved. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on top of each patty to melt.

Step 4: While the patties are grilling, butter the burger buns with softened butter. Toast them on the grill or in a pan until they’re lightly golden and crispy.

Step 5: Assemble the Swiss Mushroom Burgers by placing each cooked patty with melted Swiss cheese on the bottom half of a toasted bun. Top with the sautéed mushrooms, and if desired, add lettuce and tomato slices. Place the top bun on and serve immediately.

Notes

Cooking Note:

For an extra layer of flavor, try adding caramelized onions on top of the mushrooms for a sweet contrast. If you prefer a spicier kick, add a little Dijon mustard or hot sauce to the buns before assembling. You can also experiment with different types of cheese, such as Gruyère or provolone, for variations on the classic Swiss flavor.
