  • Author: Imili Johnson
  • Total Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

For the Beef Patties:

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef (80/20 fat ratio for juicier patties)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese

For the Fried Chicken:

  • 2 boneless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Oil for frying

For the Toppings:

  • 4 slices pepper jack cheese
  • ½ cup jalapeño slices (optional for heat)
  • 1 large sesame seed burger bun
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • Pickles (optional)

Instructions

Preparation:

Step 1: Prepare the Beef Patties

  1. Divide the ground beef into 3-4 portions and shape each into patties, ensuring they are slightly larger than the size of your bun (to account for shrinkage during cooking).
  2. Season both sides of each patty with salt and black pepper.
  3. Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat and cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until desired doneness is achieved.
  4. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking and allow it to melt.
  5. Set the cooked patties aside.

Step 2: Fry the Chicken

  1. Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness for uniform cooking.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Dip each chicken breast into buttermilk, then coat thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry the chicken breasts for 5-7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).
  5. While the chicken is still hot, place a slice of pepper jack cheese on top and let it melt.

Step 3: Toast the Buns

  1. Spread a thin layer of butter on the inside of the sesame seed bun.
  2. Toast the buns in a skillet over medium heat until golden and slightly crispy.

Step 4: Assemble the Burger

  1. Spread mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup evenly over the bottom half of the toasted bun.
  2. Start by stacking the cheesy beef patties on top of the sauce layer.
  3. Add the fried chicken breast with melted pepper jack cheese.
  4. Layer on jalapeño slices and pickles for added flavor and texture (if desired).
  5. Place the top bun on the stack to complete your towering burger.

Notes

COOKING Note:

  • Frying Tip: To ensure crispy fried chicken, let the coated chicken rest for 5 minutes before frying. This helps the coating adhere better during cooking.
  • Burger Doneness: For medium-rare beef patties, cook to an internal temperature of 135°F (57°C). For well-done, cook to 160°F (71°C).
  • Customizable Layers: Feel free to add caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, or even avocado slices to enhance the burger further.
