Ultimate Triple Cheeseburger with Onion Rings

  • Author: Imili Johnson
  • Total Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef (divided into 6 patties)
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 large onion (sliced into rings)
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Lettuce, tomato, pickles (for topping)

Instructions

Preparation:

Step 1:
Start by preparing the ground beef patties. Divide the 1 ½ lbs of ground beef into six equal portions and shape them into patties. Make sure the patties are evenly sized for consistent cooking. Season both sides of each patty with a generous sprinkle of salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Step 2:
Preheat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Once the grill or skillet is hot, place the patties on the surface and cook them for about 4-5 minutes per side, depending on your desired level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, top each patty with a slice of cheddar, Swiss, and American cheese, allowing the cheese to melt beautifully over the meat.

Step 3:
While the patties are cooking, prepare the onion rings. Slice the onion into thick rings, aiming for a size that will hold its shape well when fried. In a small bowl, combine the flour with garlic powder, and season the mixture with a pinch of salt. In another bowl, pour the buttermilk. Dip each onion ring into the buttermilk, ensuring it’s fully coated, then dredge it in the flour mixture.

Step 4:
In a pot or deep skillet, heat about an inch of vegetable oil over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the coated onion rings in the oil, frying them in batches if necessary. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove the onion rings from the oil and let them drain on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.

Step 5:
As the patties finish cooking and the onion rings are crisping up, toast the hamburger buns. You can do this on the grill or in a pan over medium heat for about 1-2 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Once toasted, start assembling your burgers. Spread your favorite condiments, like ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise, on the bottom bun.

Step 6:
Layer the bottom bun with fresh lettuce leaves, juicy tomato slices, and crunchy pickles. Place two cheesy beef patties on top of the vegetables, followed by the third patty. Top the burger with a generous handful of crispy onion rings, adding a satisfying crunch. Close the burger with the top bun.

Notes

COOKING Note:

  • Ensure that the oil for frying the onion rings is properly heated before frying. This helps achieve a golden, crispy exterior while keeping the inside tender. If the oil is too cold, the rings will absorb too much oil and become soggy.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pot when frying the onion rings. Fry them in small batches to maintain a consistent temperature in the oil, ensuring even cooking and perfect crispiness.
