Ingredients
For the Sloppy Joes:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1/4 cup dill pickles, diced
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 slices of American cheese (or shredded cheddar, optional)
- 4 sesame seed buns, lightly toasted
For the Special Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
Step 1:
Make the Special Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, vinegar, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Set the sauce aside in the fridge while you prepare the sloppy joes. This will allow the flavors to meld together for that authentic Big Mac sauce taste.
Step 2:
Cook the Ground Beef
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and diced onions. Cook, breaking up the beef with a spoon, until it is browned and fully cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the pan.
Step 3:
Season the Beef
Once the beef is cooked and drained, add the garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and mustard to the pan. Stir to combine and cook for another 2-3 minutes, letting the flavors blend together. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 4:
Add the Pickles
Stir in the diced pickles to the beef mixture. The pickles add that signature tangy crunch, reminiscent of the pickles in a Big Mac.
Step 5:
Melt the Cheese
If you’re adding cheese, place slices of American cheese directly over the beef mixture in the skillet. Cover the pan with a lid for 1-2 minutes, just until the cheese melts into the beef. If using shredded cheese, sprinkle it evenly over the mixture and let it melt.
Step 6:
Assemble the Big Mac Sloppy Joes
Toast your sesame seed buns lightly, then spread a generous amount of the prepared special sauce on both the top and bottom halves of each bun. Spoon the beef mixture onto the bottom buns, pile it high, and place the top buns over the beef.
Step 7:
Serve and Enjoy
Serve the Big Mac Sloppy Joes immediately while they’re hot, with extra sauce on the side for dipping, if desired.
