Fried Cabbage with Onion and Garlic (with Turkey Bacon)

  • Author: Imili Johnson
  • Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium head of green cabbage: chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 68 slices of turkey bacon: chopped
  • 1 medium onion: diced
  • 23 garlic cloves: minced
  • Salt and pepper: to taste
  • Chopped green onions: for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Bacon

  1. Heat Skillet: Place a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Cook Bacon: Add chopped turkey bacon to the skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until crispy and golden brown, about 6-8 minutes.
  3. Remove and Reserve: Transfer the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels, leaving the drippings in the skillet for added flavor.

Step 2: Sauté the Onion and Garlic

  1. Add Onion: In the same skillet with the bacon drippings, add the diced onion.
  2. Sauté: Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 3-4 minutes or until the onion becomes translucent.
  3. Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 3: Add the Cabbage

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, mixing well to coat it in the onion, garlic, and drippings.
  2. Cook: Cook for 10-15 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally. The cabbage should become tender and slightly caramelized.
  3. Season: Season generously with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 4: Combine and Serve

  1. Add Bacon: Return the crispy turkey bacon to the skillet and toss to combine with the cabbage.
  2. Garnish: Sprinkle with chopped green onions for a fresh, vibrant touch.
  3. Serve: Serve hot as a side dish or a light main course.
