- Total Time: Approximately 5 hours, including chilling time
Ingredients
Scale
Crust:
- 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Cheesecake Filling:
- 24 oz cream cheese, softened (3 packages)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Red and green food coloring (optional, for holiday swirl)
Topping (Optional):
- 1 cup whipped cream
- Festive sprinkles or crushed peppermint candy
- Red and green candy melts, melted for drizzling
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat Oven
- Heat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
- Grease and line a 9-inch springform pan with foil to catch any leaks.
Step 2: Crust
- Combine graham cracker crumbs, sugar, and melted butter.
- Press firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, then allow to cool.
Step 3: Cheesecake Filling
- In a large bowl, beat cream cheese with sugar until creamy.
- Add vanilla extract and eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in sour cream and heavy cream until the mixture is smooth.
- For a festive appearance, divide the batter into three parts. Color one part red and another green, leaving one plain.
- Pour the plain batter over the crust, followed by dollops of the colored batter. Use a knife to create a swirling holiday effect.
Step 4: Baking
- Set the cheesecake pan inside a larger baking dish filled with hot water halfway up the sides of the cheesecake pan (water bath method).
- Bake for 60-70 minutes or until the center is set but slightly wobbly.
- Turn off the oven, open the door slightly, and let the cheesecake cool inside for an hour.
Step 5: Chill
- After cooling to room temperature, refrigerate the cheesecake for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
Step 6: Decorate
- Before serving, top with whipped cream, sprinkles, or crushed peppermint candy.
- Drizzle with melted red and green candy melts for an extra festive touch.
Variations:
For a different twist, mix in some orange zest or cinnamon into the batter for a spiced version, or add a layer of mincemeat under the cheesecake filling for a richer flavor.
Notes
Ensure not to overmix the batter after adding the eggs, as this can introduce air and cause the cheesecake to crack.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve this cheesecake as a stunning dessert at your next holiday gathering. It pairs wonderfully with a hot cup of mulled wine or a rich, dark coffee.
Tips:
- Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature to avoid lumps in the batter.
- A water bath helps to cook the cheesecake gently, preventing cracks and ensuring a smooth texture.
